WINTREX® Heat Transfer Fluid is an inhibited ethylene glycol formulation designed for hydronic systems requiring reliable freeze protection, corrosion protection, and efficient heat transfer performance.
WINTREX® can also be used in systems containing aluminum components at operating temperatures below 150°F (66°C). For systems operating above 150°F (66°C), the use of WINTREX® is not recommended, as the inhibitor package may not provide adequate long-term protection for aluminum components. WINTREX® should also not be used in systems containing galvanized steel.
WINTREX® also includes a fluorescent yellow dye to assist with leak detection and system identification.
WINTREX® is available in concentrate and pre-diluted solutions and can be packaged and sold in pails, drums, totes, and bulk quantities to meet a wide range of customer and system requirements.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is WINTREX® heat transfer fluid?
WINTREX® is an inhibited ethylene glycol heat transfer fluid designed for industrial and commercial heating and cooling systems.
What are the advantages of ethylene glycol heat transfer fluids?
Ethylene glycol provides excellent heat transfer efficiency, lower viscosity, and strong freeze protection compared to many alternatives.
When should I use WINTREX® instead of propylene glycol?
WINTREX® is often selected for industrial applications where maximum heat transfer efficiency is desired and food-contact concerns do not exist.
What industries use WINTREX®?
Manufacturing, HVAC, industrial processing, refrigeration, energy, ice rinks and commercial cooling applications commonly use WINTREX®.
How does WINTREX® protect against freezing?
WINTREX® lowers the freezing point of water, helping prevent freeze damage to piping, pumps, and heat exchangers.
Does WINTREX® contain corrosion inhibitors?
Yes. WINTREX® contains inhibitors that help protect metals from corrosion and scale formation.
Can WINTREX® be used in industrial process cooling systems?
Yes. WINTREX® is widely used in industrial process cooling and heating systems.
Is WINTREX® available in different concentrations?
Yes. WINTREX® is available as concentrate and can be blended to meet specific freeze protection and performance requirements.
How often should WINTREX® be tested?
Annual testing is recommended to monitor glycol concentration, pH, inhibitor levels, and fluid condition.
Why choose WINTREX® for industrial heat transfer applications?
WINTREX® delivers excellent thermal performance, freeze protection, corrosion protection, and long-term reliability in demanding industrial environments.
Are custom colors available for WINTREX® heat transfer fluids?
Yes. WINTREX® heat transfer fluids can be supplied in custom colors to meet customer preferences, support fluid identification programs, distinguish between systems, and assist with leak detection. Contact Houghton Chemical to discuss available color options and minimum requirements for custom-colored products.
